Open field farming needs a reboot to stay relevant with changing times (and climate…)

Current challenges in open-field agriculture
Open-field agriculture presents several unique challenges to producers.
- Unpredictable Weather Conditions: Although modern weather forecasting technologies can provide some degree of anticipatory guidance, producers must still plan for and manage unexpected weather events, such as excessive rainfall or drought, which can have a significant impact on crop yields.
- Pest and Disease Management: Insects, weeds, and various diseases can quickly spread and cause significant damage to crops. In addition, the presence of pests and diseases can negatively impact the quality of the produce, leading to reduced profit for the farmer.
- Lack of Access to Modern Technologies: Traditional methods of cultivation, such as manual tillage and seed sowing, are labour-intensive and inefficient. Without access to modern equipment, it is also difficult to optimize crop yields and quality.
- Rising Inputs Costs: The cost of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs necessary for successful crop production can quickly add up, making it difficult for the small-scale farmer to remain profitable and competitive.
As dim as it all sounds, we believe this can be solved (or rather must be solved) through an integrated scientific approach. And so our journey began on this path!
